Hi,
I'm a Mum of four and carer for 20 years.
I think in many cases, children are getting quality care. The majority of workers are doing their absolute best to provide excellent care for children, even in some terrible circumstances. That is dedication at it's best - or is it just the good old Aussie work ethic?
Sadly in all forms of care - centre based, Family Day Care and Nannying (I've worked in all three) there are major issues. The only way to resolve them is to do something about it. Whether it be reporting to Directors/Supervisors, being honest with parents about their children's care - or reporting issues to the relevant authorities - all carers who see the down side of childcare must act.
In saying that - I have had my kids in care and cared for 100's of kids. There have only been a handful of things I'd jump up and down about (and I do!).
We are the only people who can change care for kids. When you next see eomething that shouldn't be happening, remember - these are the kids who will running the nursing homes we may be in down the track! So make sure it's good care!
